The story revolves around [Yu Narukami](https://abridgedseries.com/character/yu-narukami/), a young teenager who moves to the town of Inaba, where a mysterious string of murders is taking place. [Munehisa Iwai](https://abridgedseries.com/character/munehisa-iwai/) is a gruff-looking, middle-aged man who runs the airsoft shop “Untouchable” in a back-alley of Shibuya Central Street.

He does business with the Phantom Thieves by offering model guns and customization services. He has a tattoo of a gecko on his neck, and there are rumors that he was once a member of the yakuza.

[Sojiro Sakura](https://abridgedseries.com/character/sojiro-sakura/) is the manager of Café Leblanc in Yongen-Jaya. He is [Futaba Sakura](https://abridgedseries.com/character/futaba-sakura/)’s adoptive father, and oversees the care of [Ren Amamiya](https://abridgedseries.com/character/ren-amamiya/) during his probation in Tokyo.

[Sojiro](https://abridgedseries.com/character/sojiro-sakura/) has high standards for the coffee and curry he serves at his establishment. His taciturn demeanor belies a kindhearted nature, exemplified by how he kept the Phantom Thieves’ identities a secret, watching over them despite being aware of their exploits.

The protagonist of [Persona 5](https://abridgedseries.com/a/persona-5-the-animation/), [Ren Amamiya](https://abridgedseries.com/character/ren-amamiya/), is a second-year transfer student at Shujin Academy in Tokyo, being placed there to continue his academics due to his ongoing probation resulting from being falsely framed for assault.

He is the leader of the rebellious Phantom Thieves of Hearts, a group whose purpose is to reform society by stealing the hearts of corrupt adults in order to purge their distorted desires.

Possessing the wild card affinity, he is able to use multiple Personas. The [Trickster](https://abridgedseries.com/character/ren-amamiya/) moniker was given to him because of his uncanny knack for altering fate.

During heists as a Phantom Thief, his codename is [Joker](https://abridgedseries.com/character/ren-amamiya/).

[Goro Akechi](https://abridgedseries.com/character/goro-akechi/) is a high schooler heralded as the next Detective Prince (after the first appeared in [Persona 4](https://abridgedseries.com/a/persona-4-the-animation/)), who is investigating the mental shutdown and psychotic breakdown incidents sensationalizing Japan.

He initially opposed the Phantom Thieves, but later joined the cause. Many have been charmed by his easygoing, affable demeanor and debonair looks. His intellect and deductive insight earned him the respect of both the police department and the prosecutor’s office.

During heists as a Phantom Thief, his codename is [Crow](https://abridgedseries.com/character/goro-akechi/).

[Haru Okumura](https://abridgedseries.com/character/haru-okumura/) is the heiress of a major food service company and a third-year student at Shujin Academy who lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. She is the only daughter of Kunikazu Okumura, the CEO of Okumura Foods.

While typically gentle and a bit sheltered, her high-class upbringing has saved the Thieves’ necks more than once. She is a kindhearted girl who loves gardening, but on occasion, she can make one’s blood run cold.

During heists as a Phantom Thief, her codename is [Noir](https://abridgedseries.com/character/haru-okumura/).

[Futaba Sakura](https://abridgedseries.com/character/futaba-sakura/) is the daughter of cognitive psientist Wakaba Isshiki. She is also a member of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, having the role of Navigator.

One of the world’s preeminent hackers despite her age, she has excellent computational and programming skills, but was once a shut-in and still finds socialising difficult. Working with the Phantom Thieves has opened her up to new relationships, with a unique Persona that enables her to support the party in combat.

During heists as a Phantom Thief, her codename is [Oracle](https://abridgedseries.com/character/futaba-sakura/).

[Makoto Niijima](https://abridgedseries.com/character/makoto-niijima/) is a third-year and the student council president at Shujin Academy who lives a double life as a Phantom Thief. She is the younger sister of [Sae Niijima](https://abridgedseries.com/character/sae-niijima/).

As chief strategist of the Phantom Thieves, she is intelligent, virtuous, and juggles hand-to-hand combat and strategy with ease. As student council president, she is a natural leader within the group, but if she snaps, no one can stop her.

During heists as a Phantom Thief, her codename is [Queen](https://abridgedseries.com/character/makoto-niijima/).
